Spring To It

In this blog post, Dani from Image Vale Styling looks at how to spruce up you makeup bag this spring by swapping out single use cosmetics for multi-faceted ones.

Now that the days of dark nights and even darker mornings are well and truly behind us; it makes for a good reason for us all to have what I call ‘The Big Beauty Clean Out’. And with spring, brings no better time.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve recently looked at your make-up bag (bulging at the seams no doubt) and wondered how long you’ve been carrying all of this excess baggage for? As seen many a time at airport check-in desks across the world; excess baggage (of any kind) can be a pain to accommodate, at times unnecessary and can often come with a large price tag!

Instead, step into the new season by streamlining your make-up bag (and your bank account!) by swapping your usual solo, purposeful go-to formulas for beauty products that are brilliantly multifaceted.

Every skin is different, however there are some amazing spring beauty offerings that can effectively speed up your regime and are sure to bring instant, dewy satisfaction to anyone’s face.

So with this in mind, here are my Ultimate 5 ‘Spring Swaps’ for your make-up bag:

Spring To It 1
  1. Swap … your heavy moisturiser and replace with … a lighter, multi-purpose cream.
Rodial’s Stemcell Magic Gel is a miracle in a moisturiser! With no less than 10 key skincare benefits, it’s a gel-cream moisturiser with a difference. Use day or night and as a moisturiser or a mask. It hydrates, protects and tones all on the go. Look out for the mini version which is perfect for travelling!
    Rodial Stemcell Magic Gel, £55
  2. Swap … your individual skin tone correctors and replace with … an all-in-one.
This silky smooth primer from Stila is a true wonder product, combating all of your complexion issues such as redness, dark spots and sallow undertones with one nourishing pump of this super serum. Fab!
    Stila, One Step Correct, £26
  3. Swap … your heavy eye palettes and replace with … tubes of glossy colour that can be used for eyes, lips and cheeks.
This beautiful find from the latest offering from Laura Mercier are super dewy, yet long wearing. When blended onto the skin with just your fingertips, they give your eyes, lips and cheeks a fresh, natural pop of colour. They’re sheer, non-sticky and very easy to apply. The ‘Oasis’ shade is a particular favourite of mine.
    Laura Mercier, Glacé Touch, £23
  4. Swap … your built-in SPF product and replace with … one separate, high performing SPF.
I believe in all year round protection, and as the days get longer, more should be done to protect your skin from all manners of potential damage. This lightweight, anti-aging primer from Chantecaille most definitely has an investment price tag, however it is one of my all time go-to protective shields. Not only does it prevent the breakdown of collagen, but the formulation has a beautiful milk-like consistency that disappears into the skin, leaving the skin soothed and primed. The ultimate shield from both UVA and UVB rays.
Chantecaille Ultra Sun Protection SPF 45 PA++, £84
  5. Swap … your full coverage foundation and replace with … a base with more versatility.
And by versatility, I mean one that allows you to build up and blend, whilst also conditioning your skin whilst still giving you the right level of coverage to correct and conceal. The Custom Cover Drops by Cover FX are small bottles of foundation pigment that can be mixed in with any liquid product to make it into a foundation. From oils, to serums to moisturisers!
The main aspect I love about this product, is the fact that you have complete control over the coverage you would like (1 drop for sheer coverage and 3+ drops for full) and reap all the benefits of your everyday moisturiser of choice! The shade selection is extensive, so you can easily find your true skin tone match.
Cover FX Custom Cover Drops, £36
