Little Things That Make A Big Difference
We’re now well into the new year and January is almost over. You’ve renewed your gym membership, tried the detox and finally thinking about having that glass of wine again.
Along with so many, I typically used to panic at this time of year. What was once an opportunity to rid myself of any negativity from the previous year, had now become a pressurised countdown of all that needed to be done, changed and improved. Until I changed my mindset. No more resolutions – simple as that.
What I really wanted to do (and what I found was kinder to my mind, body and soul!) was to set myself some simple but amazingly effective goals. I wanted to be specific about what I wanted to achieve for myself in the upcoming year, and truly ask myself if these changes would make me happier? Not happy – just happier!
So, when it came to my style goals, I found myself asking…why am I waiting until the new year to change things up? Why can’t I make these changes (even the relatively small ones) whenever I felt inspired to?
I believe in positive influences. Positive style purchases and understanding that the right investment piece can really make the biggest difference has been a great influence to my everyday.
So, here are my post new year essentials and the reasons why they’re making such a difference…
Who says January needs to be blue?
The statement scarf – I love colour. Adding a statement scarf is a wonderful way to brighten and create dimensions to the usual darker and cooler tones of your winter wardrobe. Keep it colourful, playful and think textures. The bolder the better! Chunky knitted scarves work incredibly well whilst being a god send as an additional layer on those bitterly cold days!
Be brave and don’t be afraid to make a statement with contrasting prints. Clashing prints may not be for the faint hearted but it’s a great way to reinvent an outfit and make a statement with little effort.
I’m in love with this scarf from the new collection at Oliver Bonas. Team with a classic grey T-shirt, fitted jeans and ankle boots for a casual day look or pair with your favourite fitted dress and low heels for the ‘office to drinks’ run. Utterly divine.

The super, hydrating face serum – The January weather is driving my skin crazy! I have that oily/combination skin type but between the harsh elements of the outdoors and the warmth of central heating; my skin is clearly suffering.
I’m always on the hunt for a super hydrating serum. Preferably one that’s compatible for sensitive skin yet doesn’t leave my skin feeling horrible and sticky. Finally, I think I’ve found it with this little gem from The Ordinary!
I’m using it mostly as part of my evening skin routine (as my skin is naturally so oily) but it’s great for using in the morning too and you only need a few drops. A little goes a long way!The price also means that once the bottle is done, I have zero guilt in buying another two…or maybe three! It now holds a permanent residence on my bathroom shelf.
The classic black liquid liner – When it comes to liquid liners, I’ve tried them all! And by all, I really do mean all! A persistence on finding the perfect liner can easily become an obsession, but it’s understandable why. A true, jet lack liquid line can transform any look in just a few simple strokes.
For quite a few years, I turned to a gel based liner to create a softer, less defined look. BUT… I’ve completely fallen in love with the liquid pen liner all over again after buying this incredible one from Eyeko London (Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner in Carbon Black).
Its dramatic, precise, waterproof and really easy to apply – everything I look for in a liner. It comes with me everywhere and never fails to vamp up my day to evening look in an instant! (Tip: this liner also has a double ended nib, so once one end is nearly finished you can simply swap ends and you have a brand new nib to use).
