1, 2, 3…Winterise!

In this blog post, I look at how you can “Winterise” your key summer pieces with ease meaning you can wear them all year round.

HOW TO WINTERISE YOUR SUMMER FAVOURITES

Sometimes, there can be something a tad depressing about packing and storing away those lovely, little pieces that you had so much fun wearing in the glow of the summer sun.

As a Stylist, I love the changing of the seasons, especially from summer to autumn, which is my favourite time of year.

I also love nothing more than a timely and well-executed wardrobe detox to fully maximise the potential of your wardrobe. However… (as you commit to trying to be more efficient and get packing Marie Kondo-style) it can often be accompanied by a pang of sadness that you won’t be able to wear those light and versatile pieces again for at least another 6 months!

Well, I’m happy to report that it doesn’t necessarily have to be the case, and for many people during the winter months, their favourite summer pieces are never stored too far away.

Cue some handy, style tips on how to ‘winterise’ your key summer pieces with ease. Let me introduce you to some of my favourite ways to do this and give you a little inspiration on how to style your summer favourites alongside your winter classics! Your autumn/winter 2020 wardrobe – sorted!

Summer Favourite: Dungarees
+
Winter Classic: High Neck/Turtle Neck Jumper

Opt for a slightly more fitted style and the more exaggerated the sleeve the better! This will look fab under your dungarees. Teaming it with a bold and colourful heel adds a quirky touch or a pair of vintage flats or trainers, for a relaxed look.

Summer Favourite: Midi Dress or Skater Dress
+
Winter Classic: Oversized Jumper

I love to see this combination! Styling an oversized jumper (whether crew neck or high neck) adds a layered and slightly edgy dimension to your summery dresses. For me, chunky knits look best. Why not add a bright, statement lipstick and a full-length trench coat to complete the look?

Summer Favourite: Pleated Skirt

Winter Classic: Relaxed, Knee-High Boots

Pleats are not going away anytime soon (which I think is great!). Re-wear yours all season by teaming it with your chunky boots or relaxed knee-highs. An added heel keeps the look feminine and chic, whilst the soft pleats against the bulkier boot makes a stylish contrast.

Summer Favourite: Tulle Skirt

Winter Classic: Woolly Cardigan

A simple but effective way to add that cosy, wintry vibe to your look is by layering with effortless pieces. Cardigans are a great way to do this because you’ll find they work exceptionally well at different lengths and can coordinate with a huge amount of your wardrobe – whether it’s skirts, trousers, dresses or shorts! Aim for a neutral tone so you can team with practically any of your pieces.

Summer Favourite: Denim Shorts

Winter Classic: Statement Jackets & Tights

For anyone who already follows me on Instagram, you’ll know I love denim and I love wearing shorts! If I could wear a pair every day, I definitely would! When I style them in the winter though, they become my neutral basic piece in the outfit, so I always like to team them with a fab statement item like a sheepskin jacket or some faux fur. Patterned tights are big this season, so a delicate pair of tights are a must with this look.

Winter Classic: Knitted Dress

Cool. Winter. Chic.

Midi lengths work so well for this weekend style. Feel free to oversize or look for one with a slimline fit and a gorgeous print for an elevated day look. Team with a chunky, patterned scarf for bonus, pattern-clash style points!
